We are pleased to be the holders of a Gold award as members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme.  It is understandable that many visitors to Torridon in particular, Wester Ross and Scotland in general value the unspoiled landscape, clean air and unpolluted and wildness that surround us. Our policy towards a constant improvement and awareness of the importance of this is given as follows. (carbon neutral toruism)

Green Tourism policy statement of The Torridon

We acknowledge and consider it essential to monitor our performance in all areas that affect our health, habitat and life-style. The Torridon operates a policy of continuous improvement and development towards reducing the impact on the environment.

To this end we aim to be recognised as a leading representative of good practice in Green Tourism for the benefit of our company, staff, the community and our unique and fragile landscape, which, in itself, is vital to our business.

Waste-Reduction - We recycle as much rubbish waste as possible, glass, paper and metal, in our en-site re-cycling bins.  We also re-cycle ink cartridges, batteries, corks, candles and contribute to local re-cycling events.

Fuel impact - We are committed to using local suppliers and seasonal ingredients wherever possible to reduce the impact of unnecessary long-haul distribution.  We also have our own kitchen garden which supplies the hotel and inn with vegetables, herbs and flowers for most of the year.

Energy Efficiency - We use low-energy efficiency bulbs in house, as well as energy efficient boilers and temperature controlled rooms.

Training – we have a committee dedicated to generating ideas on reducing our carbon impact.  A recent idea was to swap from toweling bathrobes to cotton waffle bathrobes – reducing the wasted drying energy.

Guest Involvement – we invite all guests to contribute to our policy during their stay.  Any savings are off-set by buying new trees on the estate.
